Delayed Childbearing

Maternity currently tends to be postponed due to personal, labor, or economic reasons, this brings advantages and disadvantages eg parents have more time to prepare on issues of child care, parenting methods, teaching methods, and up to date for when the time comes.

Parents will have greater responsibility and maturity to deal with the pregnancy and subsequent child rearing versus the higher incidence of pregnancy related problems such as gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, chromosomal abnormalities such as Down Syndrome, mental retardation, cardiac malformations. Therefore our future role as midwives is to advise and report the risks to our patients and their families so they can decide and responsibly informed.
